Juneau
Juneau was probably my favorite little town. Everything just went up hill! The cost of living here is pretty expensive considering the only way to get here is by boat or plane. The people were very nice and patient with the tourist. If "bling" is your thing you've come to the right place...we visited, oh, about, maybe....20 jewelry stores! It was fun and Jarom actually went everyone of them with me! Good man.
We are not necessarily the "outdoorsy" type but once again wanted to skip the tours and adventure on our own. We decided to do hiking and that's just what we did. I'd say the total mileage probably came to about 20 miles for the day. (And to think that we still gained weight from all that eating on the ship!)
WE had just hiked to the top of the town and roads started becoming dirt roads. About 2 miles and we would be on our way to Perseverance Trail. The bridge was pretty much the divide between life and wilderness.
Results from the avalanche. This pic really doesn't do justice. Especially knowing that the town is officially running on diesel because the damage to power sources. Everything in town was only half lit. They once paid 11 cents per kilowatt now 55 cents per kilowatt!
