Spring Break 2020
This Spring Break was unlike any other... in a very non-exciting way. The boys had already been out of school for two weeks. This week was nothing special except no school work in the morning. Now how were we going to fill that time??? On top of that, we were now in a "Shelter-in-place" order--meaning we couldn't leave our property unless necessary. Of course, it was my week to grocery shop and I considered that essential, but none of the boys could tag along.
It was gratefully good weather for the week. VERY GRATEFUL!
These boys have had to dig deep into parts of their brains that they normally never have to use, like CREATIVITY. It's always been there, they just had to find it.
We converted our pool volleyball net into a tennis net in the driveway. Many hours of tennis was played. I even joined in until the boys figured out my mad skills and started to beat me. So then we invested in a tennis thingy that the ball is attached to a string and bounces back to you to practice hitting...got some more tennis balls...and another tennis racket. Tennis was our jam this week.
The boys were all about camping. We didn't really have much wood but the boys managed to find enough to keep building fires. They camped twice. They even set up all the tents and hammocks, took them all down and two days later did it again. (Lots of laundry happened during this time as well. Smokey clothes. No thanks.) You can tell their way of living is different now! Though, Jarom managed to make one of the nights a little more "glamping" by adding a small space heater. They were cozy as could be. They ate so many marshmallows. I never thought they would be so important to have during a quarantine time.
I FINALLY bought some sidewalk chalk. Another item that is in high demand and low in stock at the stores currently. I bought 3 boxes. It made for some better four square games. If you search pinterest and facebook, there are a million ideas of things to do with chalk over quarantine time.
The boys attempted swimming but that water was still pretty cold. Each time they managed to stay in a little longer, but it never lasted.

We still had plenty of electronic time. During a normal school week the boys weren't allowed electronics except on the weekends. Now we've had to make some adjustments. During the week, no electronics until after 12:30 and they have finished their school work. Then they have 3 hours of electronics that they have to sign on and off. It's not ideal but it's taught a new responsibility and helped them manage some of their time better. They have to think a little. BUT over break they have had unlimited electronics. It's been a little much.
