Bret's Big Week

This week has been busy with hauling kids back and forth and getting ready for Bret's 11th year around the sun!

No More Braces...for now!

First off, Bret got his braces off (phase 1). His teeth were so compacted this phase was just to give space for all his baby teeth to be able to come in and him not looking completely scary in the process. His next phase we will hold out for a few years--maybe 8th grade. He was so excited to be able to eat without food getting stuck. Say Cheese!

ELEVEN

Friday was Bret's big day--the birthday boy! 

His birthday wasn't filled too much fun, but we tried. 

School--boring. So, I checked him out early.

Doctor's visit--wasn't part of the plan. Unfortunately, his wellness appointment had to be rescheduled and this was the best day they could give me. They guaranteed him no shots! The positive--he's a good bill of health! 

So, we went to Chick-fil-a to get a free birthday meal (sorta). 

We celebrated that evening with Grandmother. 

Bret always requests Shrimp and Grits for his birthday meal and a strawberry cake. Wish granted! (Hyrum cannot eat shrimp so he saved his Chick-fil-a sandwich for him.)

He got lots of goodies for his birthday from grandparents and family, even Marshall. 

Marshall and Bret have a love-hate relationship. But Marshall always tends to have a tender heart at moments and this was one of them, if you want to call it that. He gave Bret a birthday card with money! 

It reads: If you add up all the real money and add ft to it , it should remind you how tall you won't be.

  

4-H Presentation

The day after Bret's birthday, we drove down to Georgia Highlands College for Bret advancing with his 4-H presentation on "The Battle of the Somme." His older brothers, I never made much effort to help them advance. It was just a hurry-up-and-finish type of assignment. This time, Bret did just about everything. I only helped him organize his board. 

Bret was in the Historical Events and Places category and there were about 12-5th graders he was competing against from the surrounding counties in the NW region of Georgia. There were some really good presentations and some not so good. Bret's advantage was he was close to last and could see what he was going up against.

In the end, he pulled out a tie for 2nd place! He was very excited! Though it was a long day, he had a great time and enjoyed sharing what he learned, as well as learning from the other kids' presentations. Bret loves to learn!
